Whitewater rafting in Colorado is a popular activity with both locals and tourists. It’s an extreme activity made for those who seek adventure. Although relatively safe when going with a guide, Colorado rafting is best suited for those who love the thrill of an exciting activity. The rafting season usually runs from May through September, with peak water levels in early June. No experience is necessary, and your appropriate skill level will be determined by your physical condition. Some tours have age requirements of 7 years and a minimum weight of 50 pounds. Other Colorado river rafting trips set the minimum age at 16.
Some rafting trips are just for a few hours, but others can be for several days. Trips usually start at about $100/person and go up to $900 for a six day trip.One of the most popular places to raft is the Cache La Poudre. It is the closest river to Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins, and Estes Park. Class III and IV rapids is what makes the Poudre such a popular spot. Most companies include all the gear needed and some also include lunch. Some Colorado rating companies will photograph your trip for you for an extra charge. Other places to raft are in the vicinity of Idaho Springs, Breckenridge, Buena Vista, Kremmling, Glenwood Springs, and Canon City. Be sure to book reservations ahead of time!
