Seven Falls of Colorado Springs

The land that Seven Falls is on was owned by James Hull. He appreciated the beauty of the canyon and falls and thought that others would like to visit. In 1885 he built a road and some stairs (yes, they have updated the stairs!) With the help of his sons, he took visitors up the canyon for 25 cents per person.
Helen Hunt Jackson visited Seven Falls in 1874. She was buried at the top of Cheyenne Peak, but her grave was later moved. You can climb to her original grave site at the top of the falls. You can climb 185 stairs to the Eagle's Nest, which is across from the waterfall. If you're not feeling energetic you can take an elevator to the Eagle's Nest. Even if you don't take the elevator, you should walk along the hall and see the exhibits about Seven Falls. Here's the view:

Or, if you really want a real adventure, you can climb 224 steps up to the top of the waterfalls. The steps are the ones in the photo above. You will climb right alongside the falls. But don't look down - yikes! If you still feel up to it after climbing 224 steps, you can hike along a trail at the top. There are two trails you can hike. The trails close at dusk during the summer, and at 4pm in the off season. For a really unique experience, go to the falls at night when they are lit up in different colors.

You might see some animals too, such as hummingbirds, trout, and.. .chipmunks!! These little cuties were all over the place, but you are warned not to feed them from your hand, as they can carry diseases.

We even saw an albino chipmunk:

Unfortunately, the picture didn't come out very well, but what's my chances of finding another one?In the summer there are Indian dances performed every hour on a stage near the stairs. Leashed pets are OK, and you are asked to pick up after them. No picnicking is allowed. There are two gift shops with themed souvenirs, and you can grab a snack at the Ponderosa Cafe. There is only one restroom which is located in the parking lot. Seven Falls Colorado Springs 2850 S. Cheyenne Canyon Road Colorado Springs, CO 80906
