Roger Waters Concert - Denver

I finally got the chance to see one of rock's most legendary icons. I am talking about Roger Waters, lyricist, vocalist, and bass player for Pink Floyd. I lucked out and scored two free tickets for the Denver stop of "The Wall" tour on November 23rd, 2010.

Some of my friends saw the show a few months earlier and only had positive reviews.Roger Waters Wall Tour I was even told by one that it was the best performance he had ever seen. After hearing that, I had high expectations. I went to YouTube and watched a few videos from the tour to give me an idea as to what to expect. After a few minutes on YouTube, I was even more excited.

I had never been to a concert like this one. There were people of all ages, even entire families. It was nice to see parents and their children enjoying the same show. It was a concert that brought all types of people to together.

The show began with "In the Flesh" and included some pyrotechnics. It was pretty impressive and started the show off just right. From the beginning of the show, I could see stagehands start building the “wall.” I knew that I should keep an eye on this because of a review I had read online.

By the end of the first set, an entire wall was built that completely covered the band, while Roger Waters played in front of it. In a video clip, I heard him explain how the wall was meant to symbolize the separation he felt from the audience when playing in a big arena. At the end of the show he said that he no longer felt that separation and something about "how great Denver was."

Not long into the show, they played "Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 1." During this song there were about 20 children dancing and singing on stage. The crowd went absolutely crazy. It seemed like everyone in the arena was singing along. I think I may have cried during this part. I felt privileged to be a part of it.

I was looking forward to seeing the inflatable flying pig. It came out from the side of the stage and hovered over the crowd. It was a great moment for me.

This show was different than what I was used to because everyone was sitting down except for those on the floor. Practically all of the concerts that I attend are geared to a younger audience, and they are on their feet from the beginning to the end of the concert. It was nice change to sit back, relax, and just watch the show for a change.

The show was 2 1/2 hours with about a 30 minute set break. That time flew by fast. This concert was one of the best that I’ve seen in a while, and I am so happy that I had the opportunity to go. I encourage anyone who has even a passing interest in rock music to try to catch one of the shows. You will not be sorry you saw a Roger Waters concert.
