Top Pick:

Brown Palace Hotel:

321 17th St
Denver, CO 80202
Phone: 303-297-3111

The Brown Palace Hotel opened in 1892, and it has became a Denver landmark. Teddy Roosevelt visited the hotel in 1905, and since then every U.S. president has stayed there, except for Calvin Coolidge. The Beatles also stayed at the hotel causing a flood of young women applying for housekeeping jobs! The club on the 2nd floor was Dwight Eisenhower's campaign headquarters during his presidential campaign.

Every year to start off the holiday season, the Brown Palace has a special champagne ceremony. 6,000 champagne glasses are (very, very carefully!) stacked up to a height of about two stories. An expert swordsman whacks the top of a bottle of champagne with a saber. He must be very accurate because of the pressure in the bottle. The champagne is then poured into the very top glass and it trickles all the way down, filling the other glasses.

This incredible sight is free to the public, but you will need reservations if you want to eat at the Champagne Brunch.
