Fort Collins Restaurants

Fort Collins has the highest number of restaurants per capita than most U.S. cities. With this comes the problem of deciding which of the many Fort Collins restaurants to visit. I hope this article helps you find the best ones first. I have included a mixture of styles of food and places to accommodate any budget.

B&Bs Pickle Barrel AKA The Pickle Barrel is by far my favorite sandwich shop of all time. That means a lot coming from a college town where just about every corner houses a sub shop. For one, it is full of that laid-back Colorado charm. It's located on West Laurel Street, across the road from Colorado State University. It's always packed, but well worth the wait. Their chicken salad sandwich is to die for--there's almonds and pineapple chunks in the mixture. Delicious! The cost is extremely reasonable and I guarantee you'll love it. There's a bar full of all the newest local micro-brews and a patio to enjoy during the warmer months. The Pickle Barrel Fort Collins does a great job of capturing the true essence of this town!

Thai Pepper is a downtown restaurant that I visited for the first time in 2010. I kept hearing about it, but was never sure of what to order when eating Thai food. Boy am I happy that I finally gave it a shot. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Out of the four times of eating there, every dish I tried was full of such distinct flavors. Eating Thai Pepper food was like eating for the first time. It too is located on Laurel Street, but just across College Avenue. Plates range from about $8-$12. There's seating both inside and out and often busy during dinner hours.

Positano's Pizzeria has the best New York style pizza in all of Fort Collins. The restaurant can be found on the Southwest corner of Horsetooth Road and College Avenue. The sauce, the cheese, the crust, the toppings--Everything about this pizza is always great. I'm used to eating cheaper priced pizzas in this college town, but this is where I go when I'm craving a real thin crust pizza. Individual slices, whole pizzas, calzones, and the other usual Italian items can be found here.

Snooze is a breakfast and lunch spot off Mountain Avenue in Old Town. Snooze Fort Collins quickly made a name for itself since opening in 2010. Once I got to go, I was blown away by the whole concept. Everything has a retro feel to it--the furniture to the music, even down to the vintage style silverware. The menu pleased me since I'm not a huge breakfast fanatic. The choices were super creative and like nothing I had heard of before (I ended up ordering a salmon hash dish.) I went on a Saturday morning, so I was expecting the crowd; However, I only waited 10 minutes after being told it would be an hour. Overall this place has a fun and youthful feel to it. Some of the best service I've encountered!

Coopersmith’s Pub and Brewery has two different buildings-- the Pub Side and the Pool Side. Both are good for "real American food." Their menu covers a wide variety of items such as sandwiches, burgers, homemade pizzas, fish, steak, and pasta. The kitchen closes at some point during the night and then the bar area is only open to 21+. But until then it’s a great place to take the family. There’s a huge outdoor patio that I really like.

Suehiro Japanese Restaurant is my favorite place for sushi. It’s in a fun location-- just North of Old Town Square. They have three different rooms to suit your particular mood. The prices are right in tune with other sushi restaurants, but the décor and overall ambiance is a bit fancier. I think this is a great spot for anything ranging from a date night to a large party.

Hot Wok Café is my favorite Chinese restaurant. The food is reasonably priced for what you get and the quality is like no other Chinese food I’ve ever had. They only use white breast meat, none of that chewy dark meat and it’s just not as greasy as most other Chinese restaurants. All of the employees are super-friendly. The one downside is the interior of the restaurant itself-- bright fluorescent lighting with white, bare walls. That’s my only complaint. My usual order is their sesame chicken with egg drop soup. I know I can never go wrong with that. I always do take-out or delivery when ordering here.

My favorite Mexican restaurant is Tres Margaritas. All the employees are pleasant, and they often have cheap specials. When driving up or walking in, you might think you’re at a typical American-Mexican restaurant, especially with the overkill of decorations, but this place is amazing. I can taste that chicken chimichanga right now. This would be a good place for a family with hungry children because they sure do get the food cooked in a hurry.

Choice City Butcher & Deli is known to the locals as being a great breakfast and lunch restaurant, although they do offer dinner several nights of the week. It has a laid-back, casual atmosphere. Breakfast prices range from $7-$11 and deli prices from $5.50 to $11. Some of the most popular side items they offer are the homemade pork green chili and garlic mashed potatoes. This place gets packed for lunch so be sure to plan for enough time in your schedule.

Rodizio Grill is a nice place for a special occasion. It is a little pricey (Lunch $17, Dinner $28) and comes with some entertainment. Just the salad bar option can be purchased for $11/$17 for all you vegetarians. Here you pay a flat rate. You have access to a large salad and appetizer bar, and waiters bring huge slabs of meat to your table and slice it for you. This is "all you can eat" so they will keep coming around as long as you have your “cue” set to green. I only eat fish and poultry, but I was still able to leave satisfied. The waiters were extremely accommodating and took the time to find extra fish in the back for me.

The Crown Pub is a fancier pub in town with two levels. After four years of living here, I just became aware of their great food. They have steaks, pastas, and seafood. I like that it’s a nice looking place with great food, without having that snooty feeling-- I always feel completely relaxed. It’s located on College Avenue in the heart of Old Town, and that's always a plus for me.

Fish is hands down the best seafood restaurant around here. You will find your typical seafood dishes, as well as gourmet style entrees at Fish. Lunch starts at $9 and dinner at about $15. Great location (College Avenue & Oak Street) and laid back atmosphere.

To keep this page updated, I plan on adding to this list of Fort Collins restaurants as I visit new ones.
