Fort Collins Bands
Fort Collins is home to an endless amount of bands and musicians, some of which make for some really good music and provide for a great night of live entertainment. Although I am most familiar with Fort Collins bands close to the jam band, electronica, and bluegrass genres, I will do my best to include those from other areas of the music spectrum.
Head for the Hills and Whitewater Ramble are my favorite local bluegrass acts. They both have a jam aspect to their shows but play straight-up bluegrass for the most part. Good Gravy takes it a step further by adding electronic inspired jams. I’ve seen all three of these bands countless times and have never been let down. Glove Trucker is another local bluegrass band, but I have not had the chance to see them. Prism is for those of you who prefer electronic sounds mixed with instruments. They usually play free shows or maybe $5 shows, either way it’s worth a visit. The Passage Project is a duo that plays dance-funk, down-tempo songs. Somewhat difficult to describe, but a good show nonetheless. The Nu Classics are a predominately funk band that has an amazing female vocalist, Devon Parker. I’m not a huge fan of this particular style, but these guys know how to play and they do it well. The Jonestown Potion’s style is jazzy rock with a touch of funk. Peace Officer is absolutely blowing up in this town. There is a hip-hop/dub-step and somewhat reggae sound to their music with a lot of sampling. Dead Floyd is a local favorite-- attracting fans from both the Grateful Dead and Pink Floyd. To see them play is usually less than $5 and the show can’t be beat for that amount of money. Tickle Me Pink is a band that has quite a following. They are more of an indie, punk rock band. This is Colorado music at its best. All of these Colorado bands play regularly in town, and a lot of them also play Denver and Boulder. Be sure to check any of these bands out if you get the chance!
