Denver Nuggets Team

by Mike D
(Greensboro, NC, USA)

My favorite sports team from Denver, Colorado is the Denver Nuggets of the National Basketball Association. The Denver Nuggets made it to the Western Conference Finals last year under the leadership of the well-rounded Chauncey Billups at point guard. Chauncey has taken the Detroit Pistons on to win the NBA Championship in the past with his superb ball handling, excellent passing and magnificent 3 point shooting.

They also have a great player in Carmelo Anthony, drafted out of Syracuse. Anthony is a multi-talented superstar. They have Nene and "The Birdman" Chris Anderson for big men. Chris Anderson can be acclaimed as a defensive specialist, with his excellent shot blocking ability and overall defensive skill and knowlege. J.R. Smith provides valuable minutes off the bench for the Nuggets with his excellent stealing ability and although he can be a somewhat streaky shooter and go cold here and there, he can drop three pointers back to back to back at times.

Nene is one of two players for the Nuggets who came from a foreign country. Nene is from from Brazil and Jonathon Petro comes from France.

Their head coach, George Karl, went to college at the University of North Carolina which, being a North Carolinian myself, is a reason enough for liking the team, but also the rookie, Ty Lawson, who was drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves and traded to Denver, comes out of North Carolina fresh out of leading the Tar Heels to a NCAA Championship, along with Wayne Ellington and Tyler Hansborough. Ty Lawson has the makes to be a great back up for Chauncey Billups, and he has so far proven this.

Another great player on this Denver Nuggets team is Kenyon Martin, who may have a somewhat bad reputation. Kenyon has a great ability to rebound the ball and and pick up either a steal or a block here and there as well as a couple fouls.
