Denver International Airport

Located 20 miles Northeast of Downtown Denver, Denver International Airport (DIA) is a convenient means of traveling to and from Colorado. It is the largest airport in the U.S. in terms of square feet. Although it is the largest airport, I think it’s surprisingly easy to navigate through to your destination.

If you’ve ever been to this state-of-the-art Denver airport, then you might visualize the white tent-like structures. They remind me of a circus tent, but in actuality they were modeled after the snow capped Rocky Mountains.

If you’re flying into DIA and need transportation, no problem. Taxis, rental cars, shuttle buses, and even public buses can get you to where you need to be. Keep in mind that rental cars cost more when renting at the airport so it might be cheaper (if your stay is longer) to rent a vehicle outside of the airport. I have even rented a car in the airport for one day and returned it the next day at my destination, and then rented at a cheaper price for the remainder of my trip.

Parking for Denver International Airport

If you’re parking your car, whether for your travel or to pickup a friend, Short Term Parking is at the hourly rate of $3, the Garage charges $2/hr, $18/day, Economy Lot $1/hr, $10/day, or the Pikes Peak Shuttle Lot $1/hr, $6/day. All of these parking areas other than the Garage have a shuttle service that will drop you off directly in front of the airport. These run close to every 10 minutes.

If you’re going to DIA to pick someone up then you can drive straight to the pickup area, but there is no waiting allowed unless you park in the 45-minute waiting area. This is free of charge and by doing this you don't have to keep driving the endless loops.

Overall I think this is a great airport. Everything is clean, there’s plenty of restaurants and shops to keep you busy, and it’s easy to find your way once inside.
