Denver Festivals

Denver is a city that offers a variety of festivals and events that are sure to entertain. Some of the more common ones are art and craft related, while others are aimed towards food and beer lovers. Whatever your preference, you are likely to find it at a Denver Festival.

The Great American Beer Festival is the one place where you will have access to the greatest number of handcrafted American beers -- Over 2,000 to be exact. Not only is this an opportunity for tasting, but also a competition for craft brewers. This is a three-day event that is held at the Colorado Convention Center around the end of September to early October. I haven’t attended this, but have heard only rave reviews. People from all over the world travel here to attend the GABF, so if you anywhere near Denver, you should see what brings them here. I have it marked on my calendar.

Capitol Hill People’s Fair is an annual event. Its purpose is to unite the community and celebrate diversity through food, handmade crafts, family activities, and live entertainment. This event is held the first Saturday and Sunday in June.

A Taste of Colorado is a chance to sample food from all the local restaurants. Admission is free, but tickets must be purchased in order to buy food and drinks. Be sure to set aside time during your Labor Day weekend to come and check out this celebration of food.

Denver PrideFest draws in over 250,000 people to Civic Center Park. It’s produced by the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Community Center and is known to be in the top 10 Pride celebrations in the country. There’s several stages with a range of different music styles, as well as a parade. This takes place on a Saturday and Sunday mid-June.

The National Western Stock Show is a charitable organization that raises money for scholarships in the fields of agriculture and medicine. There are numerous exhibits, over 350 vendors at the trade show, and over 40 ticketed events, including Wild West Shows and Mexican Rodeos. This is a 16 day event and will be held on January 8-23, 2011 in Denver, just east of I-25 on I-70.

Downtown Denver Arts Festival takes place each year during Memorial Day Weekend from Friday to Monday. Over 130 of Colorado’s most talented artists are featured here. This is a free event at the Denver Pavilions.

Colorado Indian Market and Southwest Showcase takes place during the fourth weekend in January. Admission is $12 for all three days and children 13 and under get in for free. This is located at The Denver Merchandise Mart at 451 East 58th Avenue.

Denver International Wine Festival takes place on November 2nd-5th, 2011 at The Mile High Station off of Colfax Avenue. Each day is a different event, so separate tickets, ranging from $55 to $140, must be purchased. Tickets are extremely limited, so purchasing in advance is highly recommended. This should be a nice event for any wine enthusiast.

Located in Larkspur, 30 minutes South of Denver, The Colorado Renaissance Festival has been voted "Best Family Festival in Colorado" (2010) and "Best Family Day Trip" and "Best Place for Families" (2008). The festival runs on Saturdays and Sundays from June to July. Discounted tickets can be purchased at King Soopers grocery stores.

Watch flag throwers from Venice Italy at the Belmar Italian Festival.
