Colorado Ski Areas
Colorado ski areas and Colorado ski resorts provide an outlet to those who seek adventure, to those who love the outdoors, and to those looking for a fun getaway. I've composed this list for anyone who wants to know more about what each resort and town has to offer.
- Arapahoe Basin Ski Area is located on the Continental Divide in Summit County. This ski area is known for opening earlier and closing later than most other resorts, usually closing in early June compared to others’ season ending in early May.
- Aspen Snowmass Ski Resort Complex Four mountains make up this world-renowned ski resort in Western Colorado. Aspen is just one of those places that you have to see!
- Buttermilk is most geared towards families.
- Aspen Highlands is most well known for its Highland Bowl, which makes for some extreme skiing and snowboarding for experts only.
- Aspen Mountain is the oldest of the four mountains.
- Snowmass is larger than the other three mountains combined.
- Beaver Creek Resort is a great vacation area that is associated with fine dining, specialty shops, and quality family entertainment. Beaver Creek Lodge is located near Avon, Colorado.
- Breckenridge Ski Resort is the one area that appeals to a younger crowd, and this Colorado ski town has a night scene like no other! Breckenridge Colorado is a favorite by many.
- Copper Mountain Resort is the largest in Summit County, covering over 2,000 lift-served acres. Copper Mountain is only 75 miles west of Denver.
- Crested Butte Mountain Resort is situated in a location where idealistic snow falls while daytime temperatures remain at a comfortable 30 degrees. This area offers scenic panoramic views of National Forest land.
- Durango Mountain Resort is one of the snowiest areas in the state, receiving over 260 inches annually. The Old West town of Durango is also a sight to not be missed!
- Echo Mountain Colorado is the state’s newest resort for skiing and snowboarding AND it’s only 35 miles from Downtown Denver!
- Just Say No to I-70 is the motto for Colorado’s Eldora Mountain Resort. It’s not as close as the new Echo Mountain, but Eldora ski area has a lot to offer!
- Hesperus Ski Area is 11 miles from Durango and is most well known for offering night time skiing to over 80% of its terrain.
- Howelsen Ski Area is located in Steamboat Springs and is the oldest ski mountain in Colorado with continuous use. It has gained notoriety for sending the most skiers to international competitions than any other area in North America.
- Kendall Mountain Recreation Area is located in Silverton, Colorado. This ski area offers the most affordable lift ticket for Colorado ski areas, with an adult ticket costing only $15 and children only $10.
- Keystone Resort is a popular spot for those who like variety in their runs, such as rails, bowls, bumps, steeps, and lights. This Colorado ski town is also home to the largest outdoor maintained ice rink in the country.
- Loveland Ski Area is composed of Loveland Basin and Loveland Valley which are connected by a shuttle ride. To get here it’s only a short 53 miles from Denver on I-70.
- Monarch Mountain is found just west of Salida in South Central Colorado. This place receives over 350 inches of natural snow each year!
- Powderhorn Resort is nestled aside one of the world’s largest flattop mountains, the Grand Mesa. Dry, powdered snow is plentiful here because of its high desert location.
- Silverton Mountain is for advanced and expert skiers and snowboarders only! Visitors are required to bring gear such as avalanche beacons and shovels.
- SolVista Basin at Granby Ranch has the reputation of being a great spot for families and beginner to intermediate skiers. It’s about a 15 minute drive from Winter Park.
- Ski Cooper is found in the historic mountain town of Leadville Colorado and is one of the oldest ski areas in the state.
- Steamboat Springs Resort offers some of the best skiing in the country. Steamboat Springs is home to more Winter Olympic athletes than any other place in the United States. This area is also known for its hot springs.
- Sunlight Mountain Resort is located just 10 miles from Glenwood Village. Here is where you will find the world’s largest hot spring pool.
- Telluride Resort is surrounded by the largest concentration of mountains in North America, with the closest stop light being over 65 miles from you. This ski town is for when you really want to get away!
- Vail Resort is consistently voted Best Ski Resort in North America and is one of the best Colorado ski areas by far. Vail has award class terrain and snow conditions!
- Winter Park Resort is well known to be the most consistent with snow fall in Colorado and over 70 percent of the days are sunny! Home to Mary Jane Mountain!
- Wolf Creek Ski Area is located in southwest Colorado between South Fork and Pagosa Springs. This area is known for getting, on average, 465 inches of snow every year.
With all these spots to choose from, it is no wonder why so many come to visit Colorado ski areas and resorts!
