Denver Colorado Christmas:
Plan a Perfect Holiday

'Tis the season! Here are some ideas for a Denver Colorado Christmas. Take the time to unwind and spend some time with your family doing something to bring you good cheer.

1. Take a Christmas lights tour. Downtown Denver is spectacular this time of year, with lights all along the streets. Union Station is lit up for Christmas, and you can't miss the City and County building, with it's magnificent display of lights. The City and County Building's lights display is the largest display of Christmas lights in the world, with over 40,000 lights.

2. Take a carriage ride downtown. Can't you imagine it? Clip-clopping down the snowy street, sitting next to someone special under a warm blanket, sipping hot chocolate as the snowflakes fall, looking at the beautiful lights...:-)The half-hour carriage tour is $85, and a full hour is $120. You must make reservations in advance by calling 303-670-3134 or emailing info@coloradocarriagecompany.com You will need to tell them what date, time, and which ride you want (half or full hour) and how many adults. The prices do not include driver tip.

3. See the Parade of Lights downtown. The parade will be on Friday December 5, 2008 starting at eight o'clock in the evening. It will also be held on December 6, 2008 at six pm. The parade is free unless you choose to purchase Grandstand seating.

4.Celebrate your Colorado Christmas at the Brown Palace Hotel. They offer many special events and meals for the holiday season. You can enjoy high tea, or a brunch on Christmas day. You will need to make reservations, and do it soon, because it gets full fast. You could also visit the champagne ceremony, which you can read about here

5. See a Christmas play at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. This year, A Christmas Carol will be playing from November 28-December 27.

6. Visit Santa on Larimer Square. Santa will be there weekends from 10am to 7pm on Saturdays, starting November 28, and 11am to 5pm on Sundays. On Christmas Eve he will be available from 10am to 5pm. This is a free event, and don't forget to bring a camera, so you can have a picture of your child with Santa.

7. Zoo lights: A Colorado Christmas favorite! At Christmas time, the Denver Zoo has a special display of lights.

December 12-January 4, 2008 5pm-9pm
Adults (12-64): $8
Children (3-11): $4
Seniors (65+): $6

If you purchase your tickets online by December first, you can get $2 off the Adult Admission. Or, if you bring a non-perishable food bank donation, you can receive $1 off admission.

Many of the lights are animated and shaped like animals, making this a really unique display.

While this is mainly a lights display, you might be able to see some animals too.

December 12-23 Santa will be at the Zoo Lights, and you can visit him for free with the purchase of Zoo Lights tickets. He'll be there from 5-9pm.

December 12-21 there will be an ice sculpture garden, with ice carved like animals. Also free with Zoo Lights ticket purchase.

Zoo Year's Eve will be celebrated on December 31 with a New Year's party from 5-9pm.

8. Listen to a beautiful Christmas concert with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra.

9.Go ice skating at Southlands Mall. Every year they put up an ice rink in the courtyard. They also have a big bonfire. You can go to the Tree Lighting Ceremony on November 28. The festivities start at 5pm.

10. Take a Night Before Christmas Candlelight Tour or a Holiday High Tea at the Molly Brown House Museum.
