Colorado Avalanche are the Best

My favorite Denver-based sports team has to be the Colorado Avalanche. First of all, hockey is the most exciting of all the major sports. The speed, skill and courage required to play hockey at the highest level is breath-taking to behold.
The Colorado Avalanche demonstrate these traits in great quantities, and are one of the best teams in the National Hockey League this year.
Lead by youngsters Craig Anderson (goalie) and Wojtek Wolski (left wing), as well as by dependable veterans Adam Foote (defenseman) and Paul Stastny (center), the Avalanche have a deep team that’s primed to make a run at the Stanley Cup this spring.
The atmosphere at the Pepsi Center when the Avs are in town is second to none. Hockey is much better to watch live than on television, and the energy when the Avs score a goal or drop the gloves to mix it up with an opponent is incredible.
Nothing beats the thrill when the Avs old rival the Detroit Red Wings comes to town. Who can forget those classic battles during the mid-1990’s when both the Red Wings and the Avalanche were competing for supremacy of the Western Conference. The thought of the Avalanche knocking Detroit out of the play-offs in 1996, or of Patrick Roy and Mike Vernon slugging it out while wearing their goalie gear, or even Claude Lemieux and Darren McCarty dropping the gloves seconds after the opening face-off, is still enough to get my heart racing.
Hockey is the greatest spectator sport, and the Colorado Avalanche are my favorite Denver-based sports team.
