Clear Lake

High in the mountains at 10,000 feet, Clear Lake is situated above picturesque Georgetown. This is a wonderful place to go fishing!

To get there, go six miles south on Guanella Pass (County Road 381). While you’re at it, you might want to visit the Colorado ghost town, Waldorf. To get there, go up Forest Road 248. I’ve never been to the ghost town, but I would love to see it someday.

When you’re traveling in the mountains, make sure you bring a jacket! It was raining in this picture, and we were cold. Rainstorms can roll in very quickly at high altitude, so be prepared. In the summer rainstorms are common in the afternoons and it can get chilly. The mountains are cooler in general anyway.

You will be very near Georgetown so you could see both in one day.

Also, read about altitude sickness so that the height doesn’t ruin your fun, although you are less likely to get sick that at higher altitudes.

You can also hike around and enjoy a picnic while you're there. There are 8 camping sites, but no reservations. They do have grills and an outhouse as well as a handicapped fishing area.

Enjoy the hike. Go fishing and maybe you’ll bring home some dinner!
