Christmas in Colorado

Reflections of My YouthWhen I was a young girl we lived in Austin, Texas. Never did we witness a white Christmas like we saw in the movies; that is, until the year my brother finally moved away from home. He had gotten married and moved to Colorado.
It was a miserable time for me - my only brother and my best friend was gone. I only saw him twice that year, and both times were equally special to me. However, the time I can clearly remember the most was that December. School had ended for the winter break, and I was just not as excited about Christmas as years past. I didn't see the fun in it anymore, without my brother to keep me company and help me unwrap and carefully re-wrap the presents beneath the tree so that mother could not tell that we had peeked.
When I got home from my last day of school my mother told me she had a surprise. I was not very interested, until she told me that we were going to Colorado to see my brother. I was thrilled. It was the best Christmas ever, not to mention my first "white" one.
We went sledding. I learned how to ski and ice skate. We went shopping and ate at some new restaurants that served things like venison. I will never forget that Christmas. I will never forget Colorado.
