Choice City Butcher & Deli Fort Collins
by Leslie ColemanChoice City Butcher & Deli is a popular locally owned restaurant in Fort Collins. It is located in Old Town off of Olive Street and College Avenue. What began as a deli and butcher shop in 2004 quickly grew into a hot spot for the locals, and after only a couple years the restaurant expanded to include breakfast and dinner. Now there are frequently held events to showcase themed dinners, wine tastings and beer tappings.
There is no other place like Choice City. Upon walking in, you are greeted with tall tiled ceilings and rustic wood floors. The local artwork further distinguishes this establishment from your typical eatery. Huge stenciled artwork with childlike characters grace the walls. Handmade wooden inlaid tables have been placed throughout the restaurant for seating. During the warmer months the patio is open. What a perfect place to enjoy the city scenery. Their wide variety of food choices would satisfy even the pickiest of eaters. Breakfast is served Mon. - Fri. from 7-12 and Sat./Sun. from 7-1. Some popular breakfast items are the corned buffalo hash and the banana bread french toast. If you are coming for breakfast on the weekend, I urge you to come before the lunch rush (before noon.) For lunch, the Reubens are the all-around favorite. These sandwiches are enormous! For many, they are big enough for two to share. Dinner is served Wednesday through Saturday, and each night there are chef specials. One night there may be ostrich and another night, elk. Steaks from the butcher case can always be cooked to order. One nice thing about this restaurant is that you will always walk away satisfied --whether you have had a steak dinner or just a hard to find micro brew. Choice City is known by the locals as having one of the best micro and craft brew selections. They are one of the first places to get the newly released local beers. Interested in fine wines? They have that too. The butcher area of the restaurant showcases hand cut meats including only USDA Choice and Prime, as well as occasional wild game. They can pretty much fulfill requests for any time of meat within a day or two. You could order your holiday turkey, ham, or duck. Even turduckens can be found here. Catering is also available through the restaurant. They can do anything from business lunches to weddings. This restaurant has its regulars, but it also attracts new customers from word of mouth. Many first timers are guests who stay at the Armstrong Hotel. This hotel is located in the same building as Choice City -- just down a hallway. Armstrong guests receive a 10% discount on any purchases at the restaurant. One of the most unique aspects of this restaurant is the ability to come in for a bite to eat, have a local brew, pick out some meat from the butcher case, and then head home with a full belly and your grocery shopping done. Visit this charming establishment when you are in Old Town Fort Collins.
