Breckenridge Colorado

Walking through downtown Breckenridge in the evening was an enjoyable experience. There were several groups of ice sculptures on display for the public-- some of which were quite impressive.

For our evening out we first went to South Ridge Seafood Grill which was set up as a meeting place for our large group. It was small inside and we were all somewhat crammed into the bar area. I thought that the restaurant had a reasonable amount of guests considering it was a Sunday. I saw several empty tables, but they were being saved for those who had made dinner reservations.

Happy Hour was going on while we were there and we all sampled some appetizers. There were $3 salmon wraps, $3 trout dips, and $1 half shell oysters. I tried the salmon wraps and thought they were pretty good, but now I later wished that I had tasted the trout dip as well. We stayed for a couple hours and watched the X games that were on the bar TV. Overall the place had an inviting feel to it, even considering the fact that we didn’t have much room to eat and drink. It was fun.

We then went on to Gold Dredge Restaurant & Bar for dinner. I think a lot of people just call it “The Dredge.” The dining area was downstairs and was empty except for a couple other tables. I split a mix-and-match Surf and Turf dinner with a friend and we picked out the prime rib and seared tuna.

It was more than enough for two people and cost about $50. Both of us were extremely happy with the food. Actually, everyone out of our party of 11 was happy with dinner. Our server wasn’t the best, but it seemed like she wasn’t purposely being neglectful. For one, my friend’s half eaten steak was cleared away before he finished; secondly, our bread wasn’t brought out until just before our main course. Lastly, we had to wait quite awhile for our check and payment to be collected. Even with this, I would still recommend this Breckenridge restaurant.

After dinner we spent some time upstairs in the bar. Some of our group played pool, and we all enjoyed watching the friendly competition.

It was past 11:00 at this point and I was only thinking of the hot tub back at the house. By this time the buses in Breckenridge had quit running for the night and finding a cab proved to be a impossible. I took a pleasant walk back to the house and ended my night with a long soak in the hot tub.

The house that I stayed at was one of the nicest Colorado mountain homes that I've seen. It was 2 stories with four bedrooms and a loft. The housing area is called Gold Camp and is located on Ski Hill Road.

There’s a complimentary shuttle that runs every 30 minutes that can take you directly to the ski lifts or downtown-- only about a 2 minute bus ride. It was a comfortable place, even with 11 people and 6 dogs. I highly recommend staying here if you want to truly experience the higher end of a Breckenridge Colorado vacation.

The next morning I spent an hour or so at the base of Breckenridge Ski Resort while a couple friends took some runs.

I didn’t ski this time and found it to be surprisingly enjoyable to just wander and people watch. I enjoyed a hot cup of Starbucks, listened to some tunes on my iPod, and took some time to myself. Before I knew it my friends were finished, and I was back on my way home to Fort Collins.

I would have to say that my first time in Breckenridge Colorado was great. I got to stay in a beautiful mountain home, I spent time with good people, had great food and got to see some new sights. I would suggest Breckenridge to anyone considering a mountain style vacation.
